Jonathan grew up about 70 miles north of Carmel, in a town famous for jug wine, quicksilver, and an IBM research center. His earliest memory of computing was helping his dad solder a wire to the motherboard of an Apple II, which enabled lowercase typing. After studies in La Jolla, Baltimore and Bethesda, Jonathan returned to the promised land of Northern California, where he helped start the Bioengineering Department at Stanford. After a stint in radiation oncology, he found himself at Intuitive Surgical tinkering with surgical robots. When not in the lab or in a meeting, Jonathan enjoys water sports, any sort of bicycle, and flying Cessnas around the Bay Area.  He lives with his wife and two boys in Belmont, CA, where he enjoys gardening and chasing off local wildlife.
