Leon Fleisher is one of the legendary pianists and musicians of our time. He began piano at age 4, gave his first recital at age 8, and commenced studies with Artur Schnabel at 9. At 16, he made his debut with the New York Philharmonic. But at age 37, with a booming career, he was suddenly struck silent when two fingers of his right hand became immobile due to focal dystonia. This curtailed his concert career for nearly forty years. But he never gave up the hope of playing with two hands, and recently, almost miraculously, regained the use of his right hand and has enjoyed an extraordinary renaissance and a vibrant performing career as he approaches his 80th birthday.

Philanthropist and explorer, John recently rediscovered his Dad's submarine, The Grunion, which was lost in WWII.

John Abele is Cofounder and a Director of Boston Scientific Corporation. His Dad’s submarine, The Grunion, was lost in WWII and recently found. We’ll learn more about that. His major interests are science literacy for children, education, and the process by which new technology is invented, developed, and introduced to society. He’s Chair of the First Foundation which works with high school kids to make being science-literate cool and fun; and oversees The Kingbridge Centre whose mission is to research, develop, and teach improved methods for interactive conferencing: problem solving, conflict resolution, strategic planning, new methods for learning and generally helping groups to become “collectively intelligent.” He lives with his wife, two dogs and a cat on a neat farm in Vermont.

Our team has been working hard behind the scenes to bring you a superb program for EG2020. However, in light of growing and legitimate concerns regarding the rapid spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) which have gutted international events of all sizes, we have made the difficult decision to put EG on hiatus until it is once again deemed safe.

We know how much each of you look forward to EG and we were looking forward to seeing old friends, and welcoming many new ones, but we do need to prioritize the health and safety of our attendees, presenters, and partners, especially those traveling from afar.

We will be in touch in due course with future plans.
